Whether its soup, scalloped potatoes or green beans, Gage's premium ham soup base is a terrific way to add a boost of flavor to your classic recipes. Also great for gravies or to use in coordination with BONUS COMMODITY HAM AND LEG ROASTS OR GREAT NORTHERN BEANS!.




Basic Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1 #2.5 can Gage Premium Ham Soup Base
  • 4.5 gallons Water

Basic Recipe Directions:
FOR SOUP BROTH:

  1. Add 4 oz Gage Premium Ham Soup Base per gallon of water.
  2. Dissolve and simmer.
Note: Contents of can (18 oz) will make 4.5 gallons.

FOR 1 GALLON OF GRAVY:
  1. Make roux as follows - Melt 1/2 cup butter and brown slightly (shortening may be used instead of butter but it will not brown).
  2. Mix 1 1/2 cups flour into butter to build the roux.
  3. Add 4 quarts water and 1/2 cup Ham Soup Base to the roux.
  4. Bring to rolling boil, stirring constantly to prevent lumpiness. If clumping does occur, use wire whip to make gravy smooth.
